Be sure to wear some flowers in your hair

I had my first bout of road rage driving to San Francisco down a beautiful scenic highway that would never end. There were motorcycles whizzing by me and hundreds of bicyclers enjoying the beautiful afternoon that I had to swerve around. I’m all for biking, but on that road they really need their own lane. And, the only gas station/restaurant on the road had a couple hundred Harleys parked in front on it, I held it. I finally made it off that treacherous road to meet my friend Sarah’s sister Karen and her boyfriend Doug at Fort Funston. We made our way to their friend’s superbowl party. There was a lot of great food, but the most unique were these cakes in a jar from bake-it-banana, super creative and yummy. I stayed with Karen for the night, she was a super gracious host, it must run in the family.

The next day I ventured out on the MUNI to the SOMA to go to the SFMOMA. San Fran loves their acronyms. I met my friend Eli from the Vineyard for lunch, and afterwards I spent the afternoon exploring the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA). There was Modern Art of Wine exhibit with poofers to smell wine samples and an array of decorative decanters. They also had an interesting exhibit of voyeurism in photography since 1870. There were surveillance, paparazzi, lynching, and electrocution photos. http://www.sfmoma.org/pages/exhib_events

In the evening I made my way to the Mission on the MUNI. Having dinner with Eli, his brother Marlin, and their new roommate Benzie was like a winter potluck on the Vineyard. Marlin was busy chopping onions, turnips, and celery for a lentil stew. And there was sautéed bok choy and garlic bread on the side. I really enjoyed hanging out in the kitchen while everything was cooking. I was pleasantly surprised by the tidy apartment and yummy dinner. I don’t know what I was expecting, but having had two male roommates over the summer I guess I was thinking it might be a fridge full of meat and beer. With their recycling, composting, and cloth napkins it was island style and definitely made me miss the rock a little bit.

Fort Funston (aka Fort Tungsten or Sunston as I thought I had heard on the phone.)

Wine poofers

This looked like a giant photograph on the wall, but it's amazing a woven textile.
